A Note from Troy DeShano

Here’s the thing: I’m not so sure design can change the world. But I do think good design can make a big difference for your business, event, or product.

Plus, it is a freakin blast.

Over the past ten years, I’ve worked for nonprofit organizations, marketing agencies, magazines, and even concert venues, developing a wide range of skills I have now offered as a freelance web/graphic designer & illustrator since 2009.

I make stuff that is fresh and clean. I listen closely to my clients’ goals and read between-the-lines to determine visual strategies to make them happen. Whether it’s simply creating a gig poster that attracts the right fans, book covers that get picked up, websites that convert visitors into leads, or even Instagram graphics that get more likes… I love a challenge and jump at any chance to create something brave, clean, and (if I’m really lucky) totally far-out.

Since creating my brand Strong Odors years ago, I have been lucky enough to grow a great group of peers in the design world, and have even become relatively well-known, thanks to a variety of personal design efforts like Old & New Project and FUTURALBUM.

I get really, super excited about: music, art, faith, food.

Fine art is a really big part of my life too, and am awfully proud to have shown work in number of galleries here in Traverse City, as well as in Chicago and Minneapolis.

But all those things, and as much as I love my work as a designer, they all pale in comparison to even the most uneventful moments I get to spend with my wife & three kids. Those guys all consistently blow my mind.

I’m a strong believer in the power of community and collaboration, so just give me a call about your design project. If I’m not the right person for the job, I’ve got connections to someone who is.

My story is a long one, but you can read a ton of probably too-personal-for-the-internet stories about my experinces with cancer, autism, faith crises, and little everyday experiences that somehow make life interesting on my blog Strong Odors.
